Many pets are uncomfortable having their feet and faces touched with clippers.
It’s often best to start getting them use to clipping when they’re puppies, but even older dogs can be desensitised and trained. Although the process isn’t overly difficult, it can take time. Follow the steps below and help your little loved one feel right as rain on clipping day.
Grab some electric clippers (just normal human ones will do), turn them on and put them on your dog’s feet and head, just for a few seconds to start with, and follow it with a treat.
If your dog is nervy just turn them on and put them close to the dog’s ears or feet and then progress to gently touching your pet. Do this as often as possible, preferably each day.
Did you know?
In some cases, pets can become so stressed that a simple clipping could require sedation at the vet. Besides being expensive, vet visits are just not something anyone would want to put their pet through on a regular basis.
