Kevin and Marianne Thygesen found happiness through a change of lifestyle made possible by their James’ Home Services franchise.
Kevin previously worked in an IT job for a major supermarket for 26 years and Marianne worked in retail for 28 years, spending most of her time as part of the management team.
Kevin enjoyed working in a team environment and across multiple sites at the supermarket, although, was made redundant and was then only able to secure contract work in the IT field. Kevin was not happy in his new roles and became stressed by the uncertainty of how long the contract would last and whether or not it would be extended. Marianne also enjoyed her work but eventually grew tired of the high level of responsibility that managing a team entailed.
Over the years in retail, Marianne’s work/life balance had changed with increasingly more work hours taking up her weekends and holidays. This caused Marianne and Kevin to miss out on spending valuable time together as a family.
This was turned around when Kevin looked into owning a franchise and arranged a meeting with a James’ Home Services representative to discuss the different franchise options that were available. Both ready for a change, Kevin and Marianne decided to try out James’ Home Services and started an interior franchise together.

Kevin and Marianne are both truly happy in their new roles and are glad they made the change. Owning a franchise has given them more control over the times they work, which has come with the freedom to spend time together with family on the weekends. Having the opportunity to spend time together with their children on weekend is just one of the many benefits of the work for Marianne.
Kevin finds his new role to be less stressful and more enjoyable, given the flexibility to control the times he works. The couple has found the work harder than what they originally expected, although, they find reassurance in knowing that the effort they put into the work will go towards building a great business for the future.
Kevin and Marianne are both satisfied with the support they have been given in starting up their business. The couple has the ongoing support of their trainer, who makes regular check-ups and offers advice where it is needed. They can also contact other franchisees for advice and helpful tips. Kevin and Marianne have already worked on numerous jobs with other franchisees and this has helped them establish a true team environment.
